launching our winter roadshows to help somerset residents stay warm and well

As temperatures begin to drop, we are inviting residents across Somerset to attend a series of free winter roadshows offering practical advice, energy-saving tips, and access to local support services.

Our Get Ready for Winter campaign aims to ensure individuals and families are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to stay warm, healthy, and supported during the colder months. The events are open to all and will take place in Minehead, Taunton, Axbridge and Yeovil throughout October.

This is proudly supported by the Somerset Council via Household Support Fund.

Each roadshow will feature a wide range of organisations offering expert guidance on everything from managing energy bills to accessing health and housing support. Attendees will also receive free hot drinks and gift bags.

Val Bishop, Chief Executive of Thrive, said:

“Winter can be a challenging time for many, particularly with rising energy costs and health concerns. These roadshows are about bringing people together, sharing practical advice, and ensuring no one feels alone or unsupported. We want everyone to know that help is available and accessible in their local community.”

Councillor Bill Revans, Leader of Somerset Council, said:

“We know the arrival of winter will be tough for so many residents and are working with our communities and partners to ensure help is available.

“In Somerset we are fortunate to have a vast array of local support available for people of all ages.

“As in previous years, we are choosing to distribute the £6.74m we have been allocated by the Department for Work & Pensions amongst local charities and community groups who are already doing excellent work for our residents.

“If the cost-of-living crisis is having a detrimental effect on your life and you need some extra help, I urge you to act early and find out more about the support on offer.”
